Fakenham Racecourse are keen to show their support of farming and the rural community against the Government’s decision to charge inheritance tax on farms by inviting tractors and the farming community to their Sky Bet Raceday on Sunday 19 January.
Inheritance tax on farms will devastate traditional farming families, making it impossible for the next generation to inherit a family farm and continue to provide food for the nation. The effect of the tax will be felt far and wide and will have a hugely negative impact on the entire rural economy.
As the only National Hunt racecourse in Norfolk, a county known for its food production and farming, Fakenham Racecourse is keen to show its solidarity at our upcoming televised Sky Bet Raceday next week.
We would like to invite all farmers, agricultural dealerships, engineers, suppliers, feed merchants, crop specialists, agronomists, contractors, land agents, Young Farmers and anyone else linked to the farming community to bring their tractor and enjoy a day of racing on us.
Every tractor that joins us at our ‘Sky Bet Raceday’ will benefit from a free entry badge which will be handed out by our gate staff as they drive into the racecourse.
David Hunter, Fakenham’s Chief Executive said, ‘This is not a protest. This is an exciting and fun day of high-quality horse racing that will have two races shown live on ITV. I would like the entire centre of the racecourse to be filled with line upon line of tractors to illustrate the sense of frustration the rural community and businesses have about this devasting farm inheritance tax that Keir Starmer’s Government is determined to implement. Fakenham Racecourse is very lucky to have the support and friendship of the Norfolk rural community and this race day is a small way for us to repay that support.’
The first race on Sunday 19 January 2025 is at 12.30 and the last race is at 15.55. Gates will open at 10am and all tractors MUST be on site by 11.30am and enter the racecourse via the town entrance (NR21 7NY), not Pudding Norton.
Tractors can be dropped off the day before, Saturday 18 January, between 12 noon and 5pm, but you need to pop to the office to collect your entrance badge and provide your tractor number plate, then we will advise where to park. If it is easier, you can also leave your tractor Sunday night and collect it Monday.
