Severe frost scuppers Fakenham raceday

A severe frost with overnight temperatures down in excess of minus six degrees saw the abandonment of Fakenham’s six-race meeting scheduled for this afternoon (Thursday, January 31st).

An early morning inspection coupled with the forecast of temperatures reaching no higher than plus three today resulted in Chief Executive David Hunter making the same abandonment decision as a week earlier when that meeting was also lost to the weather.

It is a desperately unlucky situation for the north Norfolk course, today’s planned meeting, for which 46 runners had been declared, having been an additional fixture to the original scheduled list.

The next meeting at Fakenham, the Lycetts Raceday, is due to take place on Friday, February 15th.
